The Lure of Likes

A workshop tackling teenage addiction to social media

It is common knowledge that excessive social media usage isn’t good for anyone. Teenage anxiety and depression is on the rise while childhood popularity contests have moved to the online arena.  The constant lure of ‘likes’ translates not only to a person’s initial popularity but also to the pressure to sustain it.  The associated brain pattern is seen with other addictive behaviours such as eating chocolate or gambling.  However social media is an essential part of our modern-day world and so how do we optimise its usage whilst minimising the potential harm it might cause?

During this workshop we will look at how social media affects a young person and how we can help him/her develop a healthy relationship with the online world, preventing negative, detrimental patterns forming.
